Better searches – Intuitive search solution for the TÜV Rheinland intranet

Project description

TÜV Rheinland has implemented an innovative search solution from BTEXX as part of its group-wide company portal relaunch project. The software builds on the existing SAP TREX search standard. Among other benefits, it offers a freely designable visual search interface along with faceted navigation to post-filter search results.

The TÜV Rheinland portal serves as an enterprise-wide information platform (intranet and application platform) for all of the organization’s employees. The rise in information complexity clearly demonstrated that the integrated SAP search function, the SAP TREX search, was no longer able to provide the intuitive operation TÜV Rheinland required. This laid the cornerstone for the new project.

To better structure the search results from disparate data sources, BTEXX implemented its BTEXX universalSearch product as part of the “Search@Blueye” project. The software is seamlessly integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Portal. The btexx solution makes it possible to search sources including Lotus Notes applications, content management systems, forum content, SAP KM repositories and content from SAP collaboration rooms.

The search engine user interface was adapted to conform to TÜV Rheinland design guidelines and be as intuitive as possible. This enables simpler, faster searches overall, not to mention subsequent filtering of search results from SAP’s own search function, SAP TREX.

“We were able to design our portal’s search function to be as self-explanatory and efficient for our users as possible for the first time thanks to BTEXX universalSearch. Complex technical processes – for example searching through a variety of content sources in the SAP NetWeaver Portal or Lotus Notes – simply run in the background. The complexity of the technical implementation shouldn’t be reflected in the operation,” says Julia Gaube from TÜV Rheinland.
