Winterhalter Gastronom GmbH, the leading innovator in commercial dishwashing systems, reorganized its company intranet. The relaunch focused on optimizing company search capability and document management.

BTEXX business technologies consulting and software experts designed and implemented the Winterhalter intranet relaunch. The new employee portal based on the SAP NetWeaver Portal was up and running in no time. Enhanced with content management features that editors can also use effortlessly (“BTEXX easyWCM” software), the main emphasis was placed on comprehensive search capability within the new portal. Winterhalter uses BTEXX universalSearch software for this purpose, an add-on solution for the SAP NetWeaver Portal.

Global intranet search in navigation, content, SAP and non-SAP systems

The launch of BTEXX universalSearch software as an add-on for the SAP NetWeaver Portal enabled Winterhalter to conduct global searches on the intranet. This allowed users to search through navigation structures, content, open document repositories, images and personnel information within the SAP HR system. It also eliminated double entry of personnel information in the SAP system along with a proprietary telephone book application.

Find search results instantly while typing

Entering three letters in the cross-portal search field delivers ad hoc results in a drop-down menu below the search field. Portal users have quick access to navigation items and personal information before the search results appear on their own portal page.

Sorted results in a central user interface

The search results are shown on a portal page. They are categorized according to top results, persons, documents or individual content modules. The categorizing feature allows Winterhalter employees to access information that is relevant to them much quicker.

Pre-designed search interfaces facilitate a quick overview of search results

Winterhalter implemented a ready-made interface design delivered with BTEXX universalSearch. They were able to use the layout in the employee portal right away and customize it to match the company’s visual appearance in just a few steps.
